The United Way of Lee County believes strong, safe communities care for those in need of life's most basic necessities. Many individuals and families in Lee County lack adequate food, shelter, medical care and emergency assistance. That is why we are committed to supporting organizations that provide supportive services in times of crisis, including financial assistance, and emergency food and disaster relief which include the following organizations:

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors so that all people affected by disaster in the community receive care, shelter and hope; our communities are ready and prepared for disasters; everyone in our community has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; all members of our armed services and their families find support and comfort whenever needed; and in an emergency, there are always trained individuals nearby, ready to use their Red Cross skills to save lives.

The Community Market of the Food Bank of East Alabama

The Community Market feeds the needy of our community by giving the needy access to available food resources. Launched in January of 2003, it functions as an extension of the Food Bank of East Alabama to provide direct food relief to low-income residents of Lee County. It offers client-choice food selection in a grocery store atmosphere at a convenient location.

Domestic Violence Intervention Center

Domestic Violence Intervention Center strives to eliminate violence in the lives of men, women and children in the five-county area. It serves by providing direct services to domestic violence victims which in turn will make them less likely to return to the abuser.

Food Bank of East Alabama

The Food Bank of East Alabama feeds the needy of East Central Alabama through member agencies by soliciting, procuring, and distributing excess food and grocery products; by developing and monitoring the agency network; and by cultivating community awareness about the nature of and solutions to the problem of hunger.

Child Advocacy Center of Twin Cedars

The Child Advocacy Center facilitates healing and justice for abused and neglected children in Lee and Macon counties. The program raises awareness so that all cases of child physical and sexual abuse can be reported, investigated, and treated through the collaboration of a multi-disciplinary team. The Child Advocacy Center serves as a child-friendly location where children feel safe and are encouraged to tell their story. It provides children and non-offending family members with core services: forensic interviews, forensic medical exams, therapy, family advocacy, court accompaniment and parent support groups. All services are offered free of charge and never expire.
